Chai TeaAccording to a study conducted by a group of researchers from the University College London (UCL), drinking tea daily can help your body recover faster from the daily stresses of life. Specifically, black tea can positively affect your body’s stress hormone levels.

Results of the Study

The study established that those who drank tea daily were capable of de-stressing faster than those who unknowingly drank fake tea. Likewise, participants who consumed black tea for six weeks, four times daily, exhibited reduced cortisol levels (stress hormone) after a particularly stressful incident than participants who consumed a fake tea substitute for the same time period.

In addition, the study found that activation of the blood platelets, which is associated with higher heart attack risks and blood clotting, was lower among the black tea drinkers. They also experienced a higher level of relaxation during their recovery period following a stressful incident. While black tea doesn’t appear to lower the actual stress levels the participants experienced, it is highly capable of reigning in the body’s stress hormone levels. This in itself has crucial health implications since slow recovery after acute stress is linked to a higher risk of developing chronic illnesses, including heart disease.
